He has more than 20 years of professional experience in humanitarian emergency operations. In his time with the Red Cross Movement, he has led many of largest and most challenging global response operation in recent times, including the Haiti 2010 earthquake response, the conflict in Syria, earthquakes in Nepal, Indonesia and hurricane operations in 2017 in the Caribbean. In recognition for leading the Red Cross response to Ebola in Sierra Leone in 2015, Steve received an MBE medal from Queen Elizabeth II of England. Steve is one of only a few Americans to be recognized by the Queen for outstanding services to humanity. Steve started his humanitarian career with US Peace Corps in Latin America, then transitioning to American Red Cross international operations. He is currently a lecturer at Tulane University and has also lectured at the University of Southern California (USC), the University of Virginia (UVA), the World Affairs Council of Los Angeles, The RAAND Corporation, the Polytechnic School California and the Carlthorp School in California.
