Shelter Session: Why is shelter key for building resilience? This session will focus on answering questions related to shelter preparedness and response geared towards the upcoming hurricane season, as well as explaining the role of shelter in community vulnerability and resilience. Building on the experience of previous operations, the topics of shelter and shelter coordination will be discussed and key preparedness and resilience recommendations will be introduced. Finally, participants will have the chance to ask questions and exchange their experiences, so as to improve the collective knowledge about this area of work.

Objectives: • Help participants broaden their understanding of shelter, as a technical sector, a community asset and a basic human right. • Explain the importance of shelter preparedness and discuss measures to improve emergency response • Share key messages for hurricane season facing COVID19 • Share lessons learned from previous responses & good practices.

Expected outcomes: • Better understanding of the role of shelter in the overall community vulnerability and resilience • Improved understanding of shelter coordination within the red cross movement and with external actors. • Identification of Focal Points of each National Society that can be considered for future trainings and Emergency Responses
